"Even all the hairs of your head are counted. So do not be afraid." Can it really be true? Is our heavenly Father actually so aware of us? Does the Creator of the universe pay that much attention to me? Jesus says yes. God knows us far more intimately than we even know ourselves. And so, we have nothing to fear.

Being Christian isn't guaranteed to be easy. More and more even in our own culture, following the faith is being criticized and discouraged in the public square. Privately, we may struggle with the demands of the commandments or the ability to believe when we face the inevitable trials that come our way. But passages like this one in today's Gospel are a source of tremendous hope and consolation. We are loved beyond measure. We enjoy the care and concern of God in every situation, big and small. Truly we have no need to worry or be anxious because God is in control.

For our part, of course, Jesus asks us to trust him and stay faithful. He asks us not to apologize for our faith, especially publicly. "Ever&one who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father." When we live our faith with confidence, it's a way of accepting the power and providence of God. But when we tr& to hide our faith away because we're afraid of causing problems, we only damage our relationship with the One who can actually solve them.

At the end of the day, the only really serious problem we need to worry about is losing our soul-and that, to be sure, is up to us. As the great French novelist Léon Bloy wrote, "There is only one tragedy in the end: not to have been a saint."

12º Domingo de Tiempo Ordinario

Estamos viviendo tiempos de mucho miedo. Los medios de comunicación nos abruman con tanta mala noticia. Hasta han hecho programas especiales para orientar a las personas afectadas de lo que se puede hacer y de lo que no se debe hacer. Sobre todo los inmigrantes han sufrido momentos aterradores de separación de familias. Los niños y los jóvenes viven también sus tensiones en la escuela, la universidad y en el trabajo. ¿Qué hacer ante es ta ola de rechazo e incertidumbre? ¿Cómo acompañar y guiar a laspersonas para que el sufrimiento sea más llevadero?

Las lecturas de hoy caen como anillo al dedo y nos enfocan en la historia de todos los tiempos, haciéndonos ver que en la vida del ser humano siempre ha existido la lucha del fuer)e contra el débil. El Profeta Jeremías habla de adversarios y de cómo estos buscaban que tropezar a para que sucumbiera. Pero él tiene confianza firme en Dios como su poderoso defensor (Jr 20, 10-11). En el Evangelio,

Jesús es más claro y contundente al hablar de los que nos ponen trampas, ya sea en la política, religión o en nuestra vida de familia. "No teman a los hombres. No hay nada oculto que no llegue a descubrirse; no hay nada secreto que no llegue a saberse" (Mt 10, 26). Y nos anima a decir todo lo que nos lleve a ser justos y sembradores de esperanza. Ser luz, proclamar su amor y su justicia debe ser siempre la prioridad de toda persona. Porque recordemos que hasta los cabellos de nuestra cabeza están contados. Por lo tanto el miedo y la desesperanza no deben ser par)e de nuestro diario vivir.
